Overview
Noria is a display typeface inspired by the handcrafted letters found on the trajineras of Xochimilco, Mexico—a place where tradition and diversity come together.
The hand-painted typography on these colorful wooden boats, used to navigate the canals of Mexico City, is a vibrant expression of Mexican folk art and traditional sign painting. Their bold lettering reflects a unique blend of vernacular style, and decorative motifs.
This project was conceived as a custom typeface for signage, designed to capture the boldness and character of Xochimilco’s iconic lettering. It was developed during the TypeParis Program and received a distinction.
