Overview
The Mexican Blackletter style is a distinctive typographic tradition deeply rooted in Mexico’s visual culture, particularly in hand-painted signage, religious iconography, and urban lettering. It blends the formal characteristics of traditional European Blackletter with the expressive, handmade aesthetic found in Mexican street signs, mercados (markets), taquerías, lucha libre posters, and popular advertising.
Valedora is a display typeface inspired by Mexican Blackletter street signs. Its design aims to capture a dynamic interplay of expression, strength, and contrast.
The word “valedor” or “valedora” translates to “buddy,” “pal,” or “protector”, reflecting a sense of camaraderie and loyalty. This typeface is a tribute to my city and its rich visual culture.
